Any trip at 5am, when driver supply is thin. Any trip where being late has a real cost. Weddings, funerals and events where the vehicle needs to wait rather than leave. Groups over four. And anything where surge pricing on a holiday would triple the fare.
The price comparison people get wrong
Rideshare quotes look lower until you compare like with like. A JFK to Midtown rideshare in an SUV during evening surge routinely exceeds $180, against a fixed $130 to $185 for a pre-booked SUV. The pre-booked price does not move. That predictability is worth something on a corporate account or a wedding budget.
